Speed Drawing of .... THE. TREE. PROJECT.

This month (March, 2017) I had the opportunity to talk to some the kids in Ms. Chin's class at Columbus North International High School about the creative process and what it takes to be a freelance artist. The assignment I made up for them was to draw a tree. Just a plain old boring tree... but of course they had to make it unique. The problem was that they had to think beyond what they know as trees... push the boundaries... AND to complicate things even more - Ms. Chin's class is the CHINESE class. So it was a two part assignment writing and drawing. In some cases, they were limited—to a degree—as to how they could describe their tree to the words and characters that they knew.

It was fun (for me)... and I hope they had fun as well.

Of course I played along... here is my "tree" (in English - I wouldn't dream of speaking Chinese!)

First messy sketches and thumbnails - I was really trying to get them to experiment a lot with their trees.

After some research, refine the sketch that you are most happy with.
